This course analyzes the main features of consumption in our culture and the pioneering contributions made by sociologists. It traces the historical development of consumption and discusses the issue of consumption as core conceptual area in postmodern society. After the reading of sociological writings on consumption, the course focuses on ‘the design of everyday life’ to question the role of (industrial) design object in this material culture.
